In Central Texas one universally known phrase, “The Great Place,” was coined by a former III Corps Commanding General to describe the relationship between Fort Hood and the surrounding cities and counties, where 73% of soldiers and their families live. This relationship developed over many years, becoming more focused during the last 20+ years of deployments. The result is a “Great Place” where communities cooperate with the installation to better the military mission, the installation and their communities in a variety of initiatives.
